EICL celebrates 20 (22) years at the forefront of Irish HVAC

June 2026 marks a major milestone for European Industrial Chillers Ltd (EICL), as the company celebrates 20 years at the heart of Ireland’s HVAC and process-cooling industry.

While the anniversary technically fell in 2024, EICL chose to delay the celebrations to focus on a period of unprecedented project demand. Now, the team is taking a well-earned moment to reflect on a legacy defined by landmark installations, national awards, and a rapidly expanding engineering team.

An evolving mission

The business has transformed since its founding in 2004. While the name reflects its origins, EICL has long outgrown a “chiller-only” description. Today, the firm supplies significantly more heat pumps than chillers, with the majority of new projects centred on low-carbon, multifunctional, and renewable-ready hydronic technologies.

While founder and CEO Peter McMahon is the face of the brand, EICL’s success is driven by a formidable operational team. Technical Sales Executive Patrice Sola provides the deep engineering design input that consultants nationwide rely on, while COO Martin Hanrahan ensures seamless project delivery. On the service side, Manager Craig Doyle leads a team of engineers who provide rapid commissioning and aftercare to maintain long-term client trust.

Peter McMahon was delighted to recently welcome his son, Sean McMahon, back into the business, who rejoined as Lead Technical Design Engineer and now also serves on the senior management team.

A reputation for technical authority

With over 35 years in the industry, Peter McMahon remains a trusted advisor to the engineering community. His influence extends to his roles with the Institute of Refrigeration Ireland (IRI) and his CPD-accredited sessions for Engineers Ireland. Furthermore, his guest lectures at Technological University Dublin (TU Dublin) highlight a commitment to mentoring the next generation of building services professionals.

Award-winning innovation

EICL’s portfolio features some of Ireland’s most ambitious projects, including:

  • Salesforce Tower Dublin: Winner of the IRI Project Innovation Award for its highly efficient six-pipe hydronic system.
  • Croom Hospital: An SEAI Energy Awards finalist for Ireland’s first non-fossil-fuel hospital, utilising advanced Aermec multifunctional heat pumps.
  • Through long-term partnerships with global manufacturers like Aermec and Hitema, EICL continues to bring cutting-edge, sustainable solutions to the Irish market.

 

The next 20 years

As the industry shifts toward electrification and digitalisation, EICL is ready for the challenge. “The last 20 years were about building capability and trust,” says Peter McMahon. “The next 20 will be about helping Ireland transition to smarter, more sustainable HVAC solutions.”
