‘Women Shaking Up the Future’ of Apprenticeships

Minister of State Marian Harkin TD, the National Apprenticeship Office, and Rose of Tralee electrical apprentice Katelyn Cummins have launched the national “Women Shaking Up the Future” campaign at Maryfield College, Dublin.

Part of the ‘Facts, Faces, Futures’ initiative, this campaign positions apprenticeships as a premier career path for young women across 80 diverse programmes, including engineering, construction, and technology.

Minister Harkin and SOLAS Director Con Ferry emphasised their deep commitment to building an inclusive workforce by actively challenging outdated perceptions, while Katelyn Cummins highlighted how these excellent apprenticeships empower women to excel in skilled trades.

Currently, over 3,000 Irish women are thriving as apprentices, building bright futures as laboratory technicians, electricians, and insurance practitioners. This initiative directly encourages school leavers to explore dynamic, rewarding pathways far beyond traditional routes.
