Among those pictured at the concluding lunch were Paul Tighe, Ethos and CIBSE Ireland; Damien Hughes and Gerard Doyle, Designer Group; Laura McMahon, Chair, CIBSE Ireland; Pat Lehane, CIBSE Ireland; Bernard McLoughlin, Ethos; and Stephen Weir, CIBSE Ireland.

Devised to build and strengthen relationships between engineering and contracting companies in the building services sector, the core objective is for the participants to gain insights into the working practices of each other’s disciplines. The duration of the programme can vary, but ideally covers a three-month timeframe.

The 2025 programme proved exceptional with new learning outcomes, which will be incorporated into the next programme – shared over the recent lunch.

How the CIBSE Ireland Workshare Exchange Programme works

The operation of the programme is quite simple. The two core participants are chosen from a design consultancy and a contractor who agree to work together on the Workshare Programme. Ideally, they both have an experience level of between two and five years and can be either mechanical or electrical specialists.

Additionally, the participating companies identify and appoint mentors. Their role is to guide and support the exchange participants, while also liaising to structure and communicate the tasks and activities for the designated exchange days. These are based on the learning objectives discussed during the programme kick-off meeting and from the learning outcomes of previous Workshare Programmes.

CIBSE Ireland

CIBSE Ireland directs the overall process and, while always available to advise and provide support, essentially takes a “hands-off” approach so that the experience for the participants is genuine and not stage-managed.
